About Xiahai City God Temple 台北霞海城隍廟
Xiahai City God Temple is a must-see for many people visiting Dihua Street and Dadaocheng. Xia-Hai City God Temple was built in 1856 and is located in Dadaocheng, a relatively developed port city in Taiwan at that time. Nowadays, people come here to pray for happiness in love and marriage. Every year on May 13th, the temple holds the annual “City God Birthday Parade”, and this celebration has been listed as an intangible asset by the Taipei City Government.
City God
The main deity enshrined in the main hall of the temple is City God and others. The City God is a righteous god who is in charge of all matters in the city. In addition to protecting the people from harm, believers also go to the temple to pray to the City God for help in eliminating diseases, protecting their health, and ensuring a prosperous career and abundant wealth.
Yue Lao
Xia-Hai City God Temple is also famous for its Yue Lao temple, and tourists from all over the world make special trips here, especially from Japan and South Korea. Wedding cakes, candies, etc. are often seen on the altar, placed there by believers who come to fulfill their vows.
