Hinoki Village
Tucked away in the heart of Chiayi City, Hinoki Village is a beautifully restored collection of over 20 Japanese-era wooden buildings that once housed forestry officials during Taiwan’s colonial period.
Today, this historic site has been transformed into a charming cultural and creative hub, offering visitors a chance to wander through cypress-scented lanes, browse local artisan shops, and experience a slice of early 20th-century Japanese architecture in Taiwan. It’s a peaceful, nostalgic escape that blends heritage with modern creativity.
As you stroll through the village, you’ll find tea houses, souvenir boutiques, and exhibitions that highlight Chiayi’s rich forestry past. Many visitors also take the opportunity to rent traditional yukata (Japanese summer robes) and pose for photos against the backdrop of the village’s elegant wooden structures.
Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a fan of slow travel, or simply looking for an atmospheric place to relax, Hinoki Village offers a uniquely tranquil and culturally rich experience in the middle of the city.
