About Yilan

Yilan is located in the northeast corner of Taiwan. 2025 Yilan International Children’s Folklore & Folkgame Festival

The Best Month to Visit Yilan

The best time to visit Yilan is usually from March to October. Winter in Yilan is mostly drizzling. If you don’t want bad weather to ruin your good mood, you should avoid it. Unless you come to Jiaoxi to soak in hot springs in winter.

Where to Stay?

Most Taiwanese choose to live in Jiaoxi, Luodong or Yilan. If you want a hot spring hotel, you must choose to stay in Jiaoxi. Although Jiaoxi does not have a night market, there are still many famous restaurants and food stores in the city. Luodong and Yilan both have great night markets but Luodong Night Market is bigger and more famous. You can choose where to stay according to your itinerary.

How to Get To?

Since Yilan is very close to Taipei, transportation to Yilan is very convenient. Whether taking a train or a bus, traveling is very convenient, so city people like to go to Yilan to enjoy the beautiful scenery. If you drive to Yilan and take National Highway 5 (Xueshan Tunnel), please pay attention to whether there are high-occupancy restrictions. There is no high-occupancy control when traveling from Taipei to Yilan, but vehicles returning to Taipei from Yilan (from 15:00~20:00 every Sunday and on the last day of a long weekend) must carry at least three passengers.

Busses from different companies depart from different bus stations. You can choose to go to: Jiaoxi, Yilan, Luodong. There are direct bus services and full-route bus services (via Jiaoxi, Yilan, and Luodong). On average, there is a bus every 20-30 minutes. During rush hour, there may be a bus every 10-15 minutes.

Bus is the most popular way to get from Taipei to Yilan. If you are travelling by train, it is important to book your express train tickets in advance, especially on weekends and holidays, as train tickets can easily sell out.
